GDHA and PHAoA – Spring Educational Clinic and Show https://www.percheronhorse.org/gdha-and-phaoa-spring-educational-clinic-and-show/ Tue, 07 May 2019 12:59:25 +0000 https://www.percheronhorse.org/?p=8167

Submitted by, Director, Anne Clary

The spring clinic was held at Foundation Farms in Dahlonega, Georgia. Crystal Mitchell, Rebecca Cannon, Lynn Johnson and Anne Clary helped coordinate the location and a clinician for the event. Colleen Coleman, the clinician, was asked to instruct over 50 participants on decoration and show preparation. Coleman was contacted by the Percheron Horse Association of America to teach the Spring Clinic and then judge the show.

Several members of the Georgia Draft Horse Association provided a wide range of draft horses to practice skills on. After a short introduction to what she does with draft horses, Coleman demonstrated how to start preparing a horse for a show. Mane rolling, tail tying for long and short tails foretop ribbon placement, flowers and tail sprigs were the next topics observed by participants. Lamar Mitchell gave a demonstration on showmanship techniques and gave constructive advice regarding showmanship to several youth participants.

The clinic was followed by the first part of the spring show, consisting of tiny tot, trail riding, western riding and barrel racing. A vaulting demonstration started the evening off. Starting Sunday morning, participants were given an opportunity to compete in English riding, showmanship, decorating and cart classes.

All participants were consistently anticipating the next class. Tack was gleaming and horses were spotless. As a collective group. The Georgia Draft Horse Association (GDHA) presented themselves as a show-ready unit. Percherons were the dominant breed in the western riding classes on Friday night. It was promising to see all the enthusiasm from all of those who attended.

We are very grateful for Colleen Coleman for coming all the way from Didsbury, Alberta, Canada to provide educational opportunities for participants and to judge the spring show. We would also like to praise the GDHA for their dedication to the clinic/ show and the draft horse. The love they showed for their horses was apparent. Thank you to the Percheron Association for providing funds to get Colleen Coleman to Georgia and share her expertise.

NEW PROGRAM: Riding/Driving Time Log https://www.percheronhorse.org/new-program-riding-driving-time-log/ Wed, 05 Dec 2018 14:01:03 +0000 https://www.percheronhorse.org/?p=7762

November 27, 2018

Hello Members!

We are looking to add in some new opportunities to promote your horses and have some fun at the same time!

The new riding/driving log is open to members with both registered and grade Percherons.  The program allows you to keep track of your hours doing just about anything with them. The only exception is this does not include showing in rated shows or in shows that provide a premium (other than 4-H). Working horses up to that would count. Any non-premium event will count as well, such as plowing matches or open shows.

There is a small initial fee of $30 to register for the program, $20 for additional horses. One sheet per horse should be filled out. Annually, fees will be $20 and $10 respectively. This is to purchase prizes. Hours will accumulate from year to year with the same horse and handler combination.  Our goal will be to get sponsors for additional prizes as well.

Each year, those that have achieved milestones will have their picture in the Percheron News along with a small ·write up of your annual achievements and the activities you performed in.

Make sure to send checks to the PHAoA with the first page to register your horse(s).  Follow up by sending in your completed sheet via e-mail or snail mail.  You can just take a picture of it and email it in!  We will verify totals with you prior to October 15 and awards will be presented at the annual meeting.

2019 will be an unusual year, being a bit shorter and running from January to October, but starting with 2020, we will then be in a full year.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have questions at aclary@percheronhorse.org or call at 920-960-0634. We will be happy to help you.

Download the forms HERE.

Happy Trails!

Please join us in welcoming our new EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR! https://www.percheronhorse.org/please-join-us-in-welcoming-our-new-executive-director/ Mon, 23 Oct 2017 03:08:17 +0000 https://www.percheronhorse.org/?p=6824

We are pleased to announce that Stacie Castella Lynch has accepted the position of Executive Director of the Percheron Horse Association of America, and started in this new role on October 16. Stacie and her husband–both lifetime members of the PHAoA–breed, raise, show and use Percherons on their farm in Goshen, Connecticut. For the past seven years, she served as the Executive Secretary/Treasurer of the North American Six-Horse Hitch Classic Series, where she automated their points tracking system, successfully increased their membership and, in turn, their revenue. In addition, she’s operated her own equine photography business, covering some of the premier draft horse events in the country. Prior to holding these positions she was an Implementations Specialist for a financial software company tasked with installing internet banking software for financial institutions. She holds an AAS in Computer Information Systems from Dutchess Community College and a BS in Computer Information Systems from Marist College.

Stacie has been a Director of the PHAoA for the past five years, having served as Vice President, as Co-Chair of the 2014 World Percheron Congress and on the National Show; Election; Information, Technology & Communications and Executive Committees. She’s assembled both the Percheron News and the Percheron calendar, rebuilt and updated the Association’s web site and has proven herself invaluable in maintaining and troubleshooting the office systems. Most recently, Stacie spearheaded the Association’s initiative to transition from the current pedigree system to our new web-based Digital Horses software and she is dedicated to its implementation in early 2018.

Given her impressive skill set, extensive experience in many facets of the heavy horse industry and her knowledge of Percheron horses and the Percheron Association, Stacie will prove to be a great asset. She is very much looking forward to working with our membership and our Board.
